About

Delish Girl

Welcome to my website!!! So glad you stopped by!  Allow me to introduce myself!  I am Heather McDonough, Nutritional Therapy Consultant, mother of three, health enthusiast and lover of life.  The kitchen is my favorite place to be, and sometimes my family has to literally drag me out, because I won't stop tinkering.  Making healthy, delicious food is my passion, and sharing it with you and inspiring you is my mission.

I hate that it usually takes a health crisis to inspire lifestyle change, but thus was the case for me.  I started feeling extreme pain and swelling in my toes back in 2001, and after numerous visits to podiatrists, orthopedic surgeons, and rheumatologists, I was diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis, an autoimmune disease that wreaks havoc on the joints, causing unsightly swelling and crippling pain.  There are many worse afflictions one can be diagnosed with, but this was my pickle, my wake-up call, the card I was dealt, and my impetus for change.  I started hearing things from conventional doctors like, "You will probably never play tennis again" and "Joint replacement surgery is in your future" and was advised to begin drug therapy right away--serious, toxic drug therapy.  I did not want to hear any of this, so I took matters into my own hands.  When my body is out of balance, there is a reason, and I was determined to get to the bottom of it.  I read countless books and websites, did hours and hours of research, visited holistic treatment centers, took food sensitivity tests, tried elimination diets, and I learned so much.  Autoimmune disease begins in the gut.  Once I began to nurture my digestive system and my body with the right foods, the right supplements and healthy personal care products,  my body began to come back into balance.  WHAT WE PUT IN AND ON OUR BODIES MATTERS.  It has been a healing journey ever since, as well as the greatest learning experience of my life.

I continue to learn and become inspired every day, and it is my greatest passion to share the information I learn with you and help you along in your journey to wellness.     My focus on wellness, my love of food preparation and my interest in creating food for others has led me in many directions.

A few years ago, I was given the opportunity to start a little restaurant in the back of Food For Thought (which has sadly since closed it's doors) and my beloved Delish Deli was born.  My mission was to create a menu that not only appealed to all taste buds, but also offered numerous options for people with food sensitivities, allergies, diet restrictions and health concerns. I wanted Delish to be a safe haven for those who needed or wanted to eat a certain way, and I wanted them to walk away feeling satisfied, inspired and happy.  I have never put more heart and soul into any project in my life.  The most rewarding part of the whole experience was getting to know the patrons and learning about their quests for health and wellness through the lens of food.  I loved not only making healthy food for people, but inspiring them to make positive changes and introducing them to new ways to take an active part in wellness through food.

The Delish Deli inspired me, allowed me to create amazing recipes to share with the Wichita community, and made me feel like a little superhero.  So out of that experience, Delish Girl was born.  In 2017 I started by journey to become an Nutritional Therapy Consultant through the NTA.  I am now certified to help you overcome health challenges and imbalances through nutrition and supplementation.  Food can be powerful medicine.  When we make choices that support our amazing bodies, we enhance our innate wellness and balance. I can help you enjoy the foods that help you thrive!  Delish Girl to the Rescue!
